What returns can I expect?

Our portfolios are made up of two parts: stocks & bonds. Your expected returns will very much depend on your specific asset allocation.

Like all market investments, the securities you own in your account are subject to market risk. If the markets are up, your balance grows. When markets are down, your account can lose money.

Your advisor & also, team of investment strategists at Gerber Kawasaki construct for you, a globally diversified portfolio catered towards your specific goals & timeframes.

Our advice is based on expected returns as well as downside risk and uncertainty, as measured by historical episodes each asset's performance. The result for you is a portfolio that provides a blend of stock upside & bond protection, across different economic regions, investment styles, & security types which strive to deliver the best possible risk-adjusted returns for your own personal level of risk tolerance. Investing involves risk including loss of principal. No strategy assures success or protects against loss. International investing involves special risks such as currency fluctuation and political instability and may not be suitable for all investors.

Why do you ask for my target goal dollar amounts & goal timeframe?

Your advisor's investment guidance is customized for each goal individually. The advice includes a suggested allocation to stocks & bonds, how much you should save each month to work toward your goal, & which we will always discuss with you first.

In order to provide this level of specific advice, we require some details about your goals. For example, for retirement this includes the age you would like to retire, as well as how much money per month you'd like to have to live on while in retirement.

Should I always be saving?

The answer is probably yes. The reasons to not be saving are:

- You are retired/decumulating rather than saving.

- Your income is so low that you can't save any money. Meaning, you have no income left after taking care of life's necessities.

- You have so much wealth already you don't need to save anymore.

- A dollar of consumption is guaranteed to make you happier now than it will later.

- You have credit card debt, in which case, your advisor will help you figure out your plan for paying off that debt ASAP. Credit card debt is a high interest rate debt, & is considered toxic to your financial future and security.

(If you have any low interest rate debt, i.e. student loans, a car loan, or a mortgage loan, then in most cases, these can be paid off, while contributing to savings/investing, simultaneously.)

If one of the above isn't true for you, than odds are you should be saving. You might not have a particular savings goals in mind, but we'll help you with that too.
